Overview of Bullying in the United States

      Bullying is a major issue seen among teenagers in the U.S. today. In fact, an average of 17 teens take their own life daily because of it. Bullying is not always physical; It comes in many other forms that many people do not consider, such as cyber bullying, verbal abuse, and mental abuse. For some teens, the harassment can grow to the point to where they are afraid to attend school or even go out at all. An alarming 160,000 students in the U.S. refuse to go to school every day due to fear of abuse and bullying.

Suicide is the second leading cause of death for ages 10-24, which is absolutely preposterous. Teen suicides are growing in number and are often the result of being teased or harassed. Sadly, most people that witness or have knowledge of someone being bullied will opt to be bystanders and choose not to get involved. In fact, less than 20% of witnesses choose to intervene in any way. To let something this severe continue happening will cause more problems in the future. Bullying will continue to happen people come together and try to put this to an end.

American schools harbor approximately 2.1 million bullies and 2.7 million of their victims. These statistics are absolutely horrifying and prove that there harassment is taking place everyday. It is also said that 1 in 7 students in Grades K-12 is either a bully or a victim of bullying. These numbers are absolutely awful and this is scaring kids for the rest of their lives. The longer it takes for people to help and put an end to Bullying, more people will get hurt (emotionally and physically) everyday. Everyone deserves to live and be happy, so why are people taking out all their anger on innocent other people?
